Stunning

Originally I was between two leather bound editions, this edition and the Calla Edition. There were so many positive reviews for the Calla Edition that I began feeling swayed but ultimately I went ahead with purchasing this edition because it is the complete works of Grimms Fairy Tales whereas the Calla Edition is not the complete works. I'm not aware of how many tales are in the Calla Edition but this one contains over 200 tales.

For $16 I wasn't expecting it to be beautiful, I was mistaken. Between the thick leather cover, the owl gracing the inside cover, the gold pages and ribbon book mark, I was mesmerized. It is just so stunning and simple plus it will look marvelous on any book shelve.

Very much recommended: beautiful and stunning.

Everything Old is New Again

This compilation actually lists the title of each story adaptation, and there have been quite a few! There is also extensive information about available audio recordings. The Publisher's Note asks for information about technical errors, outdated links and/or textual inaccuracies. Quite refreshing. The stories? What can I say about the stories? Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, The Bremen Town Musicians; if you don't know the names by now you're in for a treat. The writing style is flowing, filled with charm. Each story has a moral: some subtle, some blatant, all relevant, even today. This is not the volume if you're looking to pass a few hours: these are short stories; the type that fit into those moments while the tea is brewing or the bacon is frying. Enjoy them. Savor them. Share them.

Kindle format very well done

I believe reviews of the Kindle format should focus on that rather than the content so that is what I will do here. After suffering through some bad and some horrible inexpensive Kindle classics I was so happy to find this edition. The production quality is very good: the index is usable, there aren't any bad OCR issues, it is a joy to read.

About the Author
Federico Carpi, Pisa 1975, received the Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering, the Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering and a second Laurea degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Pisa, Italy, in 2001, 2005 and 2008, respectively. From 2000 to 2012, he has been with the University of Pisa, Interdepartmental Research Centre “E. Piaggio”, School of Engineering, Italy. Since 2012, he serves as a Reader in Biomedical Engineering and Biomaterials at Queen Mary University of London, School of Engineering and Materials Science.
Dr Carpi is the Programme Director of the MSc in Medical Electronics and Physics and he is a member of the Institute of Bioengineering at Queen Mary College.
Further, he is the President of “EuroEAP – European Society for Electromechanically Active Polymer Transducers & Artificial Muscles” (organizing the annual 'EuroEAP’) and he coordinates the 'European Scientific Network for Artificial Muscles - ESNAM, focused on transducers and artificial muscles based on electroactive polymers.
His main research focus is on biomedical & bioinspired mechatronic devices made of soft smart materials.
He is an Editorial Board member of four international journals, and member of the scientific committees of several conferences. His publications include some 60 articles in international journals, 2 edited books and several contributions to books and conferences.

Upper Dolpo | A beautiful portrayal of one of the Nepal Himalaya's most remote regions!

A wonderful book of photos and text whether you are going to Nepal to trek in Upper Dolpo or an armchair Himalayan traveler! Leo's wonderful photos of the region and Dolpo-pa (local people) really bring remote Dolpo, a remote border region of Nepal and Tibet, to life. The commentary from Peter Matthiessen's "The Snow Leopard" adds further depth to the book; a virtual trip through one of Nepal's most far-flung regions.

I was privileged to lead Leo Montejo on his Dolpo trek with Kamzang Journeys through this special region of high lakes and passes, remote villages, welcoming Dolpo inhabitants, snow leopards, blue sheep and Tibetan Buddhist chortens and monasteries. One of the Himalaya's hidden 'beyuls', or sacred sanctuaries, that most people will never be able to visit because of the challenges of getting there.

This is a book to keep on your coffee table for a long time!

The 'Snow Leopard' through the eyes of a camera

I was fortunate enough to be on the trek with Leo when he retraced George Schaller and Peter Matthiessen's journey through Upper Dolpo in Nepal. Leo's book is a testament to the meticulous detail and energy that he exhibited throughout the trek in searching for what he felt Schaller and Matthiessen would have seen and experienced during their trip back in September of 1973.
Leo's pictures work wonderfully to bring to life the words of Schaller and Matthiesson, giving the reader a real sense of understanding of what the region is like and how difficult it must have been for those two men back in the early 70's when they didn't have the comforts that Leo and his fellow travellers had.
Anyone who has read the 'Snow Leopard' or who has trekked or dreamed of trekking this region would love this book.
