Great starting point and a good reference. Brushes subtleties under the rug

This book contains the essentials. It is a large book and includes many topics. The presentation is clear and lucid. I do wish, however, that the authors better conveyed the subtleties behind many of the topics. The book is written in a way that you won't necessarily appreciate important assumptions being made is some of the derivations. Relaxing some of those assumptions can lead to very different physics. For example, the lab vs. center of mass frame dynamics/energies in dynamical friction; the actual dynamics in the lab frame can analytically be derived of course but is much more subtle:

But the book gives you the feeling that it is all very simple and done.

Nevertheless it serves as an excellent reference and perhaps the best starting point when working on problems in Galactic Dynamics. One feels that a more concise and frank text can be written that contains the fundamental of galactic dynamics and plasma physics in one-shot (perhaps it has been written and I am not aware).

Definitely recommended for the advanced student or researcher

Absolutely first rate, but quite advanced. The topics are covered in minute detail, with clear expository explanations of all the phenomena involved in galactic dynamics. Chapter 2 on Potential Theory and Chapter 4 on Orbits of Stars were worth the purchase price. Definitely recommended for the advanced student or researcher. It's truly amazing how much material the authors have packed into this volume. You'd better know your physics and math cold!

The bible of galactic dynamics. I like having it handy on all my devices rather than having to lug around the heavy book. While the content of the book is beyond reproach I dock one star for ebook production issues. The equations and figures were scanned at low resolution so they do not look good on high-resolution (retina) displays. The figures need to be scanned at higher resolution. The equations should be done with high-resolution scans or by generating them directly from the TeX source and using high-resolution fonts.

One of Greenwood's best books. Was surprised at all the known characters from the Forgotten Realms universe. I would have liked to have a glimpse of the future of some of the characters towards the end of the book. I also would have liked some of the reveals spread out a little more than wait till the last 25% of the book but that's just my preference since it didn't seem as rushed as I've seen some of the Forgotten Realms books lately. Excellent read, highly recommend if you're a Forgotten Realms fan.

This novel takes place in a mansion in Cormyr that's been around for a handful of centuries.

The hardback edition includes a detailed map of the mansion, and a map key with 69 entries. Any Dungeon Master can make ready use of the map, and the story gives plenty of information on the doings inside the mansion.

The story is vintage Greenwood, and features a host of deadly mages from across the Realms. It reveals a secret of Manshoon's power, as well as just one of the many dangers kept in the homes of Cormyr's nobility.

About the Author

Mark Philp is Emeritus Fellow of Oriel College, Oxford. His recent books include Political Conduct (Harvard UP, 2007) and Reforming Ideas in Britain (CUP, 2013). For Oxford World's Classics he has edited Paine's Rights of Man, Common Sense, and Other Political Writings and Godwin's An Enquiry concerning Political Justice.

Frederick Rosen taught for many years at University College London, where he directed the Bentham Project, which will publish a corrected edition of the complete works of Jeremy Bentham. His recent books include Classical Utilitarianism from Hume to Mill (Routledge, 2003) and Mill (OUP, 2013).

This is a revised edition of the best single-volume compilation of Mill's principal works -- the first Oxford World's Classics volume was edited by John Gray -- including a new introduction, expanded notes, and, for the first time, an index. Philp & Rosen's edition contains the four central essays for understanding J.S. Mill's version of liberalism -- "On Liberty", "Utilitarianism", "Considerations on Representative Government", and "The Subjection of Women". Philip & Rosen's introduction (pp. ix-xliv) sets the essays in the context of Mill's other writings, examines the relationships between them and the major issues of interpretation, and suggests a new approach to the debates surrounding Mill's position that results in a less arid, more comprehensible, and strikingly relevant Mill. There is also an up-to-date bibliography and thorough annotation, as well as a comprehensive index. New to this edition -- over Gray's -- is a new, contextualizing introduction with an important re-interpretation of Mill's central commitments that introduces students to existing scholarship and suggests ways of moving beyond it. There is also an updated and expanded select bibliography, a fuller chronology, fully revised and expanded notes, a comprehensive index, and a re-set text for improved appearance. However, as for the "Utilitarianism" itself, Roger Crisp's Utilitarianism (Oxford Philosophical Texts) is still preferable.

This is going to be my go-to reference for weight training. Not only are individual exercises covered in detail, but there are also sample workout plans that I can use to progress through the year. I’m working with my cycling coach to include the structure and programs outlined in this book in my annual training program. The exercise guide works well for me because the pictures are large and easy to follow in addition to the descriptions. I can see myself even bringing the book to the gym to use as a reference. I also enjoyed how the approach is framed to be used for overall health and wellness in addition to performance. I’ve read other weight training books that are more geared towards a single goal instead of a more holistic and long-term approach as outlined here. The author addresses how breathing, nutrition and even supplements fit into an effective weight training program. Overall, an excellent guide to weight training.

Not useful, not intuitive, questionable program

This book was a moderately-sized let down. It is not super informative, and what passes for information is basically just copy and pasted abstracts from scientific articles the author has picked and chosen. It gives one basic plan for weight training throughout the year, but does not go into much detail into how much time to spend on each phase, which is kind of a critical thing for periodization, which is what this book pushes. The pictures of the exercises are pretty basic and I'll probably have to lookup videos to do the exercises anyway.

There were also lots of grammar errors.
