La tranquila y programada vida de R 154 se ve interrumpida cuando al cumplir los treinta a�os y pensar que ser�a trasladado a una nueva reserva se encuentra viviendo en casa de Alexia y descubre que todo el conocimiento adquirido hasta entonces era pura manipulaci�n y mentira institucional despertando en una bien estructurada sociedad totalmente femenina donde la misandria es la ley fundamental de la sociedad, donde desde peque�as se les inculca la androfobia, donde todos y cada uno de sus movimientos, encuentros, lecturas y hasta las eyecciones son registrados en bases de datos llegando incluso a planificar a traves de permisos la fecundaci�n y donde el como var�n representa el 5 porciento de la poblaci�n mantenida en cautiverio con el solo objetivo de producir semen para los bancos de inseminaci�n artificial descubriendo como acto final de su vida la manipulaci�n a que estaban sometidas estas mujeres por las altas jerarquias de esta sociedad amazona donde una nueva lucha de poder se est� gestando hace a�os en esta tan utopica sociedad de feminas pac�ficas, la supremacia de las lesbianas sobre las heterosexuales.
Novela original y entretenida .. de ciencia ficci�n?, �El sue�o de una feminista recalcitrante y ut�pica? Creo que no, la escribi� un hombre. Trama entretenida con un estilo algo Orweliano que recuerda m�s a las sociedades totalitarias planificadas donde el Gran Hermano nunca duerme, siempre listo para cortar por lo sano el mal social, un tema no solo pra disfrutar sino tambi�n para reflexionar y pensar.

A society without men

Los Hombres Sobran, by Ezequiel Tambornini, proposes a very interesting premise. Society is solely composed of women and only women are free. Men are housed (jailed) in farms (genetic farms) and where they spend their entire lives to serve one purpose: produce sperm to impregnate women. They are fed, kept in optimal shape and intellect to further positive genetic intellectual, and physical traits. But, they are never let out and they do not form part of society, at all.

The story revolves around R 154, a male specimen reaching his serviceable life (which is around age 30 or so) and Alexia, an official at the "men farm". Alexia risks her job, reputation, and life, when she decides to "kidnap or rescue" (take your pick) R 154 and use him as her own personal, well, man.

But, things become complicated as R 154 discovers all he has learned about the world is a lie. As Alexia explains the truth, as she knows, to R 154, her own world and beliefs are shaken as she begins to question everything, including her own history.

The author wrote the beginning of book in a very scientific way. The entire beginning felt like a college text book of anatomy. Then, as it progressed, doubt, humanity and emotions entered into the book through the writing. Tamborini sometimes overindulges in long sentences which made my eyes glaze over. But, overall, this is a pretty decently written book. The book did take a while to get to the plot and the author spent a lot of time and pages introducing the characters.

I definitely recommend this book. It not only has an interesting premise but, it challenges us to entertain some very interesting ideas about humanity, and women in general.

No lo compr� en Amazon, me lleg� como regalo y me gust�.

Este libro me record� los libros "Farenheit 451", "1984" y la pel�cula "El planeta de los simios". Me gust� la manera en que est� escrito a pesar de que hubo algunos momentos en que me confund�a qui�n redactaba el texto. El final: perfecto, me encantan estos tipos de finales.

Como coincidencia, al mismo tiempo le� el libro "Cartas a un joven poeta" de Rainer Maria Rilke y en una carta de 1904, a m�s de un siglo de diferencia con "Los hombres sobran" (2011) narra perfectamente lo que podr�a ser la trama del libro:

Roma, 14 de mayo de 1904

La joven y la mujer, en su nuevo desarrollo personal, ser�n transitoriamente imitadoras de los buenos y malos modales masculinos, y ejecutantes de profesiones varoniles. Tras la incertidumbre de tales tr�nsitos se demostrar� que las mujeres habr�n pasado por esos abundantes y variados disfraces -con frecuencia rid�culos- s�lo para purificarse en lo m�s peculiar de su naturaleza, de las influencias deformadoras del otro sexo. Repetitive

First of all, allow me to add my voice to the other reviews on this product that suggest that "End-to-End Game Development" is the wrong title for this book. "Building a Game Developing Company" would be much more appropriate. I won't dwell on that, though, since so many other people have said the same thing.

The other criticism I have is that for a good part of the beginning of the book, the author defines the nomenclature that he will be using throughout the book. Then he defines it again. ...and again ...and again... um... OK, once was enough, alright?

There are amusing parts here and there--the tid bit about the history of lawyers gave me a good chuckle, for example, but overall, I wouldn't recommend this book. ...unless you wanted to start a gaming company :)

Bad Approach Used

The way 'End-to-End Game Development: Creating Independent Serious Games and Simulations from Start to Finish' was written is simply not the way that I feel this book should have been undertaken. For subject matter such as this, an example project should have been devised, and the book should have gone through the steps to do exactly what the title says. Show the starting point of how an idea was created, and the steps it goes through to get from point A to point Z. Instead of doing this, the authors use a variety of examples throughout, with scattered content and scattered results.

This approach might work for talking about a programming language, but I really think it's haphazard way of doing things here.

I simply cannot recommend this book.

Serious indeed

End-to-End Game Development seems to be aimed at people who want to manage a serious game project (where "serious game" essentially means "used for training"), but who don't have a strong technical background. Since the title uses the phrase "game development," you might think it's aimed at developers. Not at all. A better title would be "Managing a Serious Game Project."

The ideal audience for this book is someone who has a grant to develop some kind of training game and has never played a game before in their life. Personally, I'm a programmer, and I've played a fair number of games. I also run a business and have an academic background (I even took a graduate-level course called "Videogames and Learning"), so it's not that I don't care about the marketing of games or the psychology behind them; it's that those areas are presented in an exceptionally turgid way here. Let me give an example: Chapter 17 is entitled "The Concept Document." OK, I don't care about concept documents, but maybe you do. But do you really need paragraphs like:

"You may generate several different concepts and need a one-page concept document for each. Compare-and-contrast was a good exercise back in high school, and generating multiple concepts may be a way to sift through different approaches and arrive at the best one."

To be fair, the chapter is only 12 pages long. 4 of those pages are a real example of a concept document (for a firefighter training game), which is useful. It's the other 8 pages that annoy me. And every chapter is like that. Chapter 19 is dedicated to "Development and Delivery Platforms," giving pros and cons for each major console (and some minor ones) of the last decade. Cons of the PlayStation, for instance, include "A majority of North American households don't have a PlayStation" and "Art and programming development (i.e., skilled labor costs) can be expensive, given the complexity of building 3D objects, environments, and interactions." The latter point isn't even PlayStation-specific. And none of it is very useful. Do managers really choose to deploy a game on the PlayStation instead of the XBox because of a few bullet points?

After years of academic neglect of games, there's now a glut of exceptionally dull books on the subject; this is just one of them. If you're developing a game of any kind, the one book I would strongly recommend is the Game Design Workshop. Only read this one if you're trying to get a grant.

British boy with catchy name and unusual powers, check. Wild hair, check. Students at boarding school, check. Owls and funny street names, check. Mysterious shape-shifting enemies out to get the affable boy protagonist, check. Jenny Nimmo's "Children of the Red King" series (starring Charlie Bone) has so many of the same trappings as the Harry Potter series that, unfortunately, comparison is unavoidable. Rowling's books clearly trump these simpler fantasies for younger readers--but the Charlie Bone books are finding their audience in those who need a boy-wizard fix and need it now.

Charlie Bone and the Invisible Boy, the third book in the author's planned quintet, begins when the magically "endowed" Charlie and his friend Emma discover a mostly invisible, strawberry jam-loving boy named Ollie Sparks imprisoned in the attic of the Hogwartsian Bloor's Academy. Ollie's plight is part of a seemingly amorphous Larger Evil Plot involving school authorities, a blue boa, and Charlie's three horrible great aunts. Charlie Bone and his friends are eager to fight wrongdoing with their combination of special powers, but obstacles in all shapes and sizes abound. Can the children rescue Ollie, Charlie's uncle, Ollie's older brother, and the other hapless victims...or are the enemies too plentiful and powerful? Despite the likeable Charlie and a plethora of magical happenings (raining frogs, sorcerers who escape paintings, etc.), reading this 408-page fantasy feels like a bit like running a marathon where the finish line feels farther away with every step. Grade 4-7–In this third installment in the series, another semester at Bloor Academy is about to begin, and, as usual, chaos ensues. At home, Charlie's Uncle Paton disappears, then returns ill and powerless. Charlie's friend Benjamin heads off to Hong Kong, and his grandmother Maisie leaves to take care of her sick sister. At the same time, a new and sinister student named Belle arrives and quickly establishes herself as a force to be reckoned with. A new art teacher has joined the staff to find his younger brother, Ollie Sparks, turned invisible by a blue boa (snake, though there are feathers involved) controlled by the evil Ezekiel Bloor. Charlie and his friends try to come up with ways to help Ollie and Billy Raven, the poor orphan being manipulated and tormented by the Bloor clan. One of the strengths of this story (and the whole series) is the way both regular people and those who are magically endowed work toward common goals. A weakness is the lack of progress toward identifying and rescuing Charlie's father, who is barely mentioned in this outing. Still, it's a wild roller-coaster ride of a story, and will more than satisfy not only fans of this series, but those who are exhibiting symptoms of Harry Potter withdrawal.–Mara Alpert, Los Angeles Public Library

When Charlie's uncle Paton disappears and a new girl with eyes that constantly change color shows up at his house, the adventure is on! Characters are introduced quickly at the beginning, but it isn't necessary to have read the first two books to enjoy this one. Readers will quickly sort out the personalities and settle into the story of magically talented friends--from Billy who speaks to animals to Tancred who can call down the weather--coming together to solve a mystery. The novel's length may be initially daunting for some young readers, but the type is large and generously spaced. Cindy Welch

I bought this book (and two others from this same seller) for my 10-year-old son based on a recommendation from his teacher, as she knows my son has really liked the Michigan Chillers and American Chillers books (oh yeah, and the Goosebumps books). I'll try to update this review once my son reads the book and comments about it (after Christmas), but as for the condition of this book (it was purchased "used" from this seller), it was virtually impossible to tell the difference between this "used" book and a new one. It is in like-new condition, so I'm very happy with the book as it exceeded my expectations on its condition. 5-stars.

Charlie Bone is a great Read.

Charlie Bone is a great read for children. My 6th grader is actually interested in reading this book. She has read about 5 of them so far. She has read them very fast as I have not really made her read these books. She wanted to read these, which is rare! The plot is similiar to Harry Potter but the lanauge is easier for the younger kids to read and the book is shorter which is good for them. You are able to find cheap used ones here on Amazon or buy at local book store becuase these books are very popular with the kids right now. Both girls and boys like Charlie Bone.

A good read in an unusual format

Jeffrey Archer is good at writing short stories as well as lengthly fictions. In this book he has put his talent into another format : a drama. The story is simple - about the love between an old couple. Actually there is another short story on the same theme by Mr Archer which I have read before and liked better. In this 'love story' there was a couple who had been married for years and knew that they had chosen the right spouse. What happened when death came to part one from the other ? Did the husband commit mercy killing for the wife who was terminally ill ? The dialogues of this courtroom drama were beautifully written. If there is any teacher of English who happens to see this review, I recommend it as teaching material to demonstrate how modern English should be written : concise, precise, simple and effective.

This is a wonderful play that deals very sensitively with the topic of euthanasia. It has 2 settings - a courtroom and a wealthy home. I directed this play in a community thaetre and it was very successful. Recommended

It also scored numerous 'kills' against the Russians and there is a long list of aces who gained this title while flying the IAR.80.

This is an excellent book on the subject, its format, styled on the superb Polish and Czech detail books on aircraft, is printed in the UK. Contains many scale drawings of the aircraft throughout its development along with a good selection of photographs and colour scheme drawings. Good descriptive text and useful specifications. A boon to anyone with an interest in the Rumanian IAR 80/81, be they aeromodeller or just interested in the history of that country's best indigenous fighter/attack aircraft, highly recommended, an excellent purchase and a credit to the author! --By G. Through no fault of the author this book has been a lomg time coming. Was it worth the wait? Oh yes it was. Compared to reference books on more well known and documented aircraft, this book contains far more precise and factual information. And when you consider that the IAR80 and 81 were just about unheard of outside of Romania until a few years ago, then this work by Radu Brinzan is even more remarkable. Much use is made of factory drawings,scale drawings, rare photographs and colour profiles to describe the development of this most capable yet arcane fighter. Any historian or modeller would be proud to own this book which has finally put,what must have been the pride of the Romanian aircraft industry back in the limelight where it deserves to be. This is a detailed technical book covering all variants of this important and attractive, but little known type. There are scale plans and written information covering all versions. Sadly, nothing is included about their operations or pilots. This is probably due to soviet suppression as the Romanians had fought on the Axis side and then fell under the Iron curtain after the war - any heroic stories of combat and successes against Russia and the Allies becoming shameful and forgotten under communist leadership. An ideal book for technophiles and modelers alike. A talented modeler could scratch build an accurate replica with just this book for reference. All that is needed now is for a mainstream manufacturer to produce an affordable model kit of the plane, the only ones available to date being from the more expensive 'short run' manufacturers. Someone send a copy of the book to Airfix please! --Olga Federkevich

Such a perfect tome for modellers and technical info seekers!

Very technical book filled with tons of diagrams and colorful profiles! There's a line-art diagram showing 3-views, even 4-views, of every series in the I.A.R.80 and 81. Everytime there was a change in wing panels, guns, wheel wells and the like, you get a new diagram. And there must be like 30 good profiles that include more unorthodox color schemes, which are difficult to find for the I.A.R.80. And loads of information about equipment, development, prototypes, experimental I.A.R.80's, etc. At the end, there are color 3-views of all the mayor camo schemes and color schemes they used, including por-Allied and post-war.

Yes, buy it :)
