Arrived within two weeks of purchase (Over Christmas period), in terrific condition.
The text itself is very thorougher and Jeremy has a knack for explaining thoughts and concepts relevant to someone considering the teaching (Tesol/Tefl/Esl etc) field. Though I've only begun my TESOL certificate, I feel this text will help enormously, as this completely revised edition has the added bonus of discussion on such subjects as:
teacher development
learner autonomy &
context-sensitive learning & teaching methodologies

There is a wealth of up-to-date material any up-and-coming ESL teacher, or teacher in training, will find valuable as they complete their studies.

A good guide to the principles of Teaching English

The Preface points out that the target audience of this book is postgraduate students, teachers in inservice training and practicing teachers. In other words people who have had some training in the past which they are now looking to put into practice. This is not my situation. I have none the less found the book to be very useful as a guide to the practical principles to be followed in Enlgish language teaching. Though it does not include very much in the way of sample activities or grammer rules, the principles the book discusses, if creativly applied, have the potential to offer a much more versitile range of activities then a collection straight forward lesson plans to follow or model after.

Admitedly I have not yet started teaching so I have not yet been able try it out.

Too theoretical to be useful. . .

Harmer was one of the two recommended texts for my CELTA English as a Second Language course. I found it heavy going, long on theory, short on practical advice for the new ESL teacher. I much prefer Scrivener, "Learning Teaching." It's hard to find in the US, but worth the effort.

Second Language Cooperative Learning.

This book extends cooperative learning for second language learners. Cooperative learning is very important for second language learners. My complaint is that there is the belief that second language learning is all about teaching grammar skills and vocabulary explicitly. Its known that these skills are better developed when they are context embedded. Then the author mentions something about a "structured" Natural Approach. An oxymoron if I ever heard one! Where's the content?

Good book for cooperative learning.

I like this, I teach ELL and I wanted some new cooperative learning structures I could use. I liked the book, but if you are familiar with Kagan a lot of the structures presented you will already know. I was hoping for some new ideas. It is a good book though and it is well laid out.

Kind of thin

There are some good activities in the book, but it certainly doesn't live up to the glowing "Foreward" that Spencer Kagan wrote for it. Many of the ideas are found in other teacher resource books, so they are hardly unique to Kagan. Note that the book is only 134 pages, and many of those pages are black line masters of things like articles of clothing, which are readily available elsewhere. I purchased a used copy, but I don't think it's worth the 29.00 price for a new copy.

She is the author of The Paradise Garden Murals of Malinalco: Utopia and Empire in Sixteenth-Century Mexico, which won the College Art Association’s Charles Rufus Morey Book Award, and coeditor of Seeing across Cultures in the Early Modern World.

This is a remarkable book. A real academic coup de force. The text
is fascinating, about the black madonna image, its meaning and origins,
and the illustrations are lovely. Jeanette Peterson is a respected art
historian and this work will surely merit her only more kudos.

This a very beautiful and wonderfully detailed volume, but it elects not to acknowledge anything in support of the tilma image's acheiropoietic origins. Philip Serna Callahan's infra-red evaluation is dismissed in one sentence. Professor Petersen questions a statement in his monograph in which he writes that the mantle's color appears to be tempera, but also has the transparency of watercolor. She decides this is simple double-talk, even though it was just part of many findings which led to his summation that the Virgin's blue mantle color and condition are inexplicable. There's also no mention of the mid-1990s unearthing of the Codex Escalada or Ernest Burris' technical analysis of the mid-16th-century copy of the Nican Mopohua, found in the New York Public Library. The author's point of view is clear and she's welcome to it, but the work feels incomplete because of it. She is focused on proving how Juan Diego and his image evolved into a 17th-century miracle-mill, but this Guadalupe conspiracy theory never really rings true.

Not sure if there are newer editions, but I found this book to be obsolete and antiquated (as of winter 2013-2014) The book refers to the old style of GRE scoring and just isn't up to date on the graduate school application process.
