Sexy and Oh So Sweet Read!!

Rachel Parker loves being a reporter and covering news for the San Francisco Goliath's, not only is she able to live out her dreams in front of the camera, but she is also front and center at every game covering her favorite sport...baseball! Being surrounded by all the handsome players could certainly be viewed as a added bonus by some, but for Rachel, she decided early on to never let her work life mix with her home life. Which seems to be a rather easy rule to follow, that is until after she meets the Goliath's smooth talking star player Bryce Baxter, then she begins to wonder how bad it would be for her to make a one time exception... Being with Bryce outside of her work world would definitely be breaking the rules, and potentially putting her job at risk, but there is just something about him that has her wanting to stray from the straight and narrow. Not realizing though that this one time exception could change the course of her entire life...

To an outsider looking in it would appear that Bryce Baxter seems to have it all, a career that he loves, many accolades under his belt, fame and fortune, and a fancy sports car to boot. But even with all these riches he still feels like there is something missing from his life... a feisty redheaded reporter to be exact. After a few secret hook-ups with her, he can't seem to shake the hold she has over him, and it's starting to effect his game. He knows the only way to get things back on track is to either get over her, or convince her they have something more than just a casual friendship, but she has a rule, and isn't so willing to break it. Just when he thinks it's time to let her go, she shows up on his doorstep with some news that has him wanting to do admit things to her he never thought possible...

This story captured my attention right from the start and had me flying right through the pages, with a dire need to know more, which inevitability had me staying up well past my bedtime just to get my fix! This was my introduction to Ms. Mathews work, and I have to say that it left a very memorable first impression, so much so, that I plan to revisit the series and read the books released prior to this one. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent getting acquainted with these wonderfully crafted characters and I highly recommend that you take a chance on them too! It is a highly satisfying read that will melt your heart and having you looking at baseball players in a whole new light... and possibly leave you with the desire to catch a game..or two!!

Great characters!

I really enjoyed this book! You gotta love the sexy, arrogant jocks even though occasionally they are so dense and don't know when they've got a great thing going on. :) Bryce was a fun one to have a love/hate relationship with for awhile there ...

Bryce Baxter should be riding high. He was MVP when his team won the World Series last season and signed the best multi-year contract around. Instead he's in a slump this season and irritated that he can't get a certain lady off his mind.

Rachel Parker has been working hard at getting her sports reporter career off the ground, but got a little closer to a player than she was supposed to. When she shows up to see Bryce with a little problem on her mind, he steps up to aid the situation.

Will they decide their spark and inability to get each other off their minds is enough to build a relationship on?

This is another good one in this really good series. Bryce and Rachel have been sleeping together off and on for about a year. When things are going well for him on the diamond, he likes to celebrate with a round in Rachel's bed. Every time, Rachel is determined it will be the last, but then he unleashes that charming smile and she's putty. She can't tell him no. But then something changes...and it's not just Bryce's luck when he's playing the game he loves.

I did really enjoy this one. Bryce and Rachel are in a difficult situation just in that they've never had a relationship before. It was always JUST SEX. They never even went out for dinner before. It's hard to have trust in the relationship with that kind of foundation. Yes, they have chemistry, but sex doesn't fix everything. And it certainly doesn't with these two.

I liked the way the author wrote the story. There is certainly not smooth sailing for these two. They literally have nothing to build a relationship on and as they get further and further into things, that becomes more and more obvious. They don't know how to do the basics of getting along in life with one another. And this thing with Rachel isn't the only pressure that Bryce is having to deal with. With the team coming off a World Series win and with him making a TON of money now, there is a lot of pressure to perform. Pressure that's proving to be too much as he can't get his game to settle into a rhythm.

I liked the way the story was put together with the support story lines that pushed the whole book forward. Although there were times when I wanted to bat both characters upside their heads for being stupid, I did really enjoy the book. I could see so easily why they were both having issues adjusting and it made my heart hurt for them.

And I do love sports books and this one was great because there was a lot of truly great information about the game. Rachel is a reporter for the Goliaths so she and Bryce know the game inside and out. I like books where I feel like I learned a little bit of something more and this was definitely one of those because there are a lot of the intricacies of the game that were explained over the course of the book.

If you like sports book, this is a great series. I recommend it. Note: this is part of a series, but you can easily read each book as a stand-alone.

This is a great quick reference book for alternatives to traditional medicine. There is more research required by the reader for treatments (dosages are not included always) but it's definately a great starting point. I'm not following the suggestions to the letter, but the guidance it provides is very beneficial and points me in the right direction for further research.

This book has become my health bible. It gives you what you will not get from most doctors -- a diet and lifestyle based approach to treating/managing/correcting various ailments and illnesses. The authors do a fantastic job of describing why our dependence on pills and medicines to solve our health problems is simply not sufficient and often leads to more harm than good in the long term. At the same time, they offer practical remedies and treatments that can replace or supplement conventional medical treatment. Every mother, college student, bachelor, etc. should have this book. It makes a great gift as well.

About the Author
Carl Safina's work has been recognized with MacArthur, Pew, and Guggenheim Fellowships, and his writing has won Orion, Lannan, and National Academies literary awards and the John Burroughs, James Beard, and George Rabb medals. He has a PhD in ecology from Rutgers University. Safina is the inaugural holder of the endowed chair for nature and humanity at Stony Brook University, where he co-chairs the steering committee of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science and is founding president of the not-for-profit Safina Center. He hosted the 10-part PBS series Saving the Ocean with Carl Safina. His writing appears in The New York Times, National Geographic, Audubon,Orion, and other periodicals and on the Web at National Geographic News and Views, Huffington Post, and CNN.com. Beyond Words is his seventh book. He lives on Long Island, New York.

Beyond Words is a fascinating look into the world of animals! This book had me in awe of so many animals & their feelings!
By I'd rather be at the Beach
This book is written in a MUCH MORE scientific style than I thought it would be. However, I learned so much more about what I thought I knew about animals. I knew that dogs show happiness, anger, aggressiveness, playfulness, excitement and even grief, but to discover that even elephants, whales, wolves, crows (very smart), fish and many other species show many of these feelings was very surprising. I'm certainly convinced that more animals have "human feelings" than we thought when I read about older baby elephants throwing temper tantrums when their moms decide to wean them! Reading about an entire herd of elephants "joyfully" frolicking was something I never expected. When the Alpha Wolf in a pack "pretends" to lose at play-wrestling with wolf pups, that clearly shows feelings toward the little guys. We learn about two wolves, one year-old Triangle and his older sister, who are weakened with Mange. They go out hunting but are met by three hostile wolfs from another pack. The hostile wolves take down the sister, but Triangle comes running back to distract them time after time. "Self-sacrifice" by a wolf? Isn't this clearly love? This is a fascinating book that had me in awe, had me laughing at their antics and in tears at their losses. I highly recommend it.

Do You Ever Look Into The Eyes of an Animal and Find There More Than You Expected?

Carl Safina often did and if you are reading this review, I am thinking that you have too.

This book is written beautifully, but that should not imply that it is an easy read. However, it is a MUST READ if you love animals.
Jacques Cousteau said that we protect what we love. We are also engaged in a journey of becoming with that which we love.
Carl Safina's BEYOND WORDS will guide and accompany on your journey of loving animals.
This book contains fascinating information about animals, but this book is a vision quest.
Be forewarned by the dimensioned and nuanced style.You will lick the dust of an elephant's breath from your teeth, lean into the salt spray of arcing orca dives, measure your heartbeats by wolf paws padding a wild terrain.
The book is long. You will persist. There is treasure here. You sense that. Stay the course.
No vision quest worth it's glimpse at great mysteries ever gives up before the epilogue & footnotes.
I am part Native American. I thank Carl for helping us see all our relations more truly.
This is a book for a journey of such importance, it may take the rest of your life. Don't worry, a wondrous assemblage of species and those humans who love and protect them will be with you every step of the way.

Should be mandatory for every human being on the planet to read.

This book is one that I literally think every human being on the planet without exception should have to read. When you realize what we humans are doing to the world, building and drilling and polluting and killing every last thing we can get our hands on without any restraint or limit, it's of great concern, or should be. This book shows, by observation and fact, that animals are not "just animals" (whatever that means anyway), or things to be used to make money, but thinking, feeling creatures, not human but not all that different. If you think otherwise, you are simply wrong and possibly resistant to the inconvenient truth, in which case I hope you can't vote or reproduce. The book follows a few animals and clearly shows how animals think thoughts, develop relationships, experience fear, terror, pain, depression, mourning for the dead, etc. Yeah, inconvenient but clearly and factually true. We can't avoid killing animals for food and self-defense and such, but there are some animals that we kill for "sport" or fun (Cecil the lion…), for money (poachers for ivory), and there are events in some countries that actually torture animals as if it's a celebration, etc. We've hunted animals to extinction, we are fishing the oceans out and catches diminish, and we hack up and fragment wild areas without realizing (or perhaps troubling ourselves to care about) the implications. So much for our higher intelligence and awareness. Animal lovers are not little old ladies with thirty cats, they simply see and understand what is there. Certainly some people over-humanize animals and read human things into animal behavior, and that is equally incorrect, but this book confirms what many people have suspected or known and is a great read for anyone with an open mind and "human" as we like to think of that word. Safina demonstrates intellectual rigor with crystal-clear insights and analogies, coupled with a lush writing style, it's a well done book. But it is also sad to read what we as a race are doing to creatures not all that different from us. The author does not explicitly condemn people, he understands and conveys why people feel compelled to harm or kill animals, but it's obvious that we need to think differently than we do, and to do so soon or risk destroying things that can't be replaced and who's loss will ultimately affect us directly, in ways we may or may not understand yet.

About the Author
Besides being an artist of considerable reputation, Erle Loran was Professor of Art at the University of California, Berkeley. Richard Shiff holds the Effie Marie Cain Regents Chair in Art and directs the Center for the Study of Modernism at the University of Texas, Austin. His books include C�zanne and the End of Impressionism (1984).

A great book for understanding how Cezanne constructed his paintings

A great book for understanding how Cezanne constructed his paintings. The diagrams of the paintings, created by the author, gave me a lot of insight into how each painting works as a whole. Much of the text, especially in the first five chapters, can be scanned as it is dryly academic and filled with attacks on critics, other academics, and painters who have the audacity not to be named Cezanne. It is definitely not for someone wanting a book of paintings. All of the reproductions are Black and White. As a fan of Cezanne however, I will pour over the diagrams over and over to gain insight into his process.

Very descriptive, I can see what Cezzanne did. This book shows the how and why of numerous works. You will learn how he used perspective and reversed perspective. His paintings are shown along with pictures of the actual subjects, so you can see how he rearranged them.

This book is for anyone wanting/needing to know how Cezanne came up with his unique compositions. His methods are examined. His thoughts that were conducted to others throught letters and recall are examined. There is a lot of controversy over Cezanne's use of perspective. The author has photographed the exact locations of Cezanne's paintings and made diagrams with explanations for the reader to know exactly how the artist worked. I found this book to be very interesting.
